§ 14-141. Vehicle inspections; by the department; inspection fee.

Every vehicle operating under this division shall be periodically inspected by the police department on spot-check basis. However, all taxicab vehicles and limousine vehicles must be inspected by the department within thirty (30) days of application for a business permit. A business permit will not be issued until proof of inspection is furnished to the department.

An inspection fee shall be assessed annually for each taxicab or limousine examined pursuant to section 14-149. The fee may be adjusted annually as recommended by the department and approved by the commission. Every taxicab vehicle shall be retired from service on or before January 1 next following the completion of the seventh year after the model year of manufacture, or following the completion of the fifth year of use as a taxicab, whichever comes first. No limousine shall be licensed which is older than eight (8) years at the commencement of the license year.
